Waltham Vanguard 23 jewel railroad watch with
box
item WW330
Price $425
This is a 16 size with an
outer
case diameter of 50.5mm(2 inches)
Good condition painted
metal dial
Has plastic crystal
The case does show
small signs of use, the gold plate has small areas of wear through
showing the base metal underneath, so even though it does have the box,
it is not a new watch, but a well preserved specimen that has been
carried but remains quite presentable
The cardboard box
is marked with the same serial number as the watch, it is in about
average condition, a little worn around the edges and there is a tear
in one corner of the inner part
The movement is signed
"Vanguard,
Waltham U.S.A., 23 jewels 8 adjustments"
It fills all of the
requirements
of a railroad watch in any era
It is lever setting to
set
the hands, and this model was made with the lever in a unique position
- it is at about 11:00 - pull it out away from the dial, at which
time if you turn the winding crown the hands will move. Push it
back
in, and now turning the winding crown will again wind the watch.
This lever setting system was required on all railroad grade watches so
that you would not accidentally change the time when you were winding
the
watch
You can see the lever in
the
out position at the 11:00 in the photo above
The case is marked
"10K Rolled Gold Plate" it is gold
filled
Manufacturer's
movement
serial number 34,502,444 dates this watch to about 1956
